Overview

This advanced international qualification develops the knowledge and practical skills required to perform as a leading health and safety professional.

It supports academic and career progression by building capability in leadership, risk management, workplace health and safety controls, organisational culture, and continual improvement.

Target Audience

Health and safety professionals, people aspiring to enter the profession, and those with substantial health and safety responsibilities who want an in-depth understanding.

Entry Requirements

There are no mandatory qualification entry requirements, but the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent prior learning is strongly recommended. NEBOSH recommends English language ability equivalent to IELTS 7.0 or higher.

Assessment

DI1 is a workplace-based assignment with simulations, reflective statements, and research, completed over four weeks (20 working days). DI2 and DI3 are scenario-based case studies, each completed over two weeks (10 working days). Learners must successfully complete all three units.

Professional Recognition

The qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for IOSH membership at the appropriate grade. Current recognition also includes BCSP QEP/TSP, BCRSP routes, Saiosh graduate membership eligibility, and alignment with Level 7 of Abu Dhabi's Qudorat framework, subject to each body's current requirements.

The qualification consists of three units:

DI1: Know – Workplace Health and Safety Principles

International legislation, enforcement, ILO guidance, and non-governmental organisations
Leadership, influence, culture, and human factors
Competence and professional practice
Hazard, risk, loss causation, and risk-management strategy
Monitoring, auditing, and management-system review
Corporate Social Responsibility and change management
Contractor and supply-chain management

DI2: Do – Controlling Workplace Health Issues

Workplace health and wellbeing
Assessment and control of occupational health hazards
Application of health-risk controls in realistic workplace scenarios

DI3: Do – Controlling Workplace Safety Issues

Workplace safety hazards and risk controls
Selection, implementation, and monitoring of control measures
Application of safety-risk controls in realistic workplace scenarios
