Overview

Developed by NEBOSH with Great Britain's Health and Safety Executive, this one-day qualification explains how to carry out effective investigations into non-complex incidents.

Learners practise gathering and analysing evidence, interviewing witnesses, identifying immediate and underlying causes, and proposing actions that help prevent recurrence.

Target Audience

Employers, supervisors, SHE champions, union representatives, safety representatives, and anyone who needs to carry out incident investigations effectively.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Prior knowledge of health and safety issues is recommended, together with a suitable standard of English.

Assessment

A practical assessment using an evidence pack and a video containing three witness interviews. Learners review the evidence, evaluate each interview, and produce an action plan to prevent recurrence. The course tutor marks the assessment as Pass or Refer.

The PEACE model for interviewing
Recording and analysing findings
Identifying immediate and underlying causes
Developing corrective and preventive actions
Preparing the investigation report and action plan
