Overview

Excavation work can expose people to collapse, falling materials, and falls involving personnel or plant. Work should not begin until required precautions are in place and the excavation has been confirmed safe.

This course develops the knowledge needed to supervise excavation activities, identify hazards, plan and control the work, understand excavation methods and support systems, and respond to emergencies.

Course Objectives

On completion of the training, participants should be able to:

Supervise excavation activities safely.
Explain the responsibilities of personnel involved in excavation work.
Identify hazards associated with excavations.
Plan excavation activities.
Control and manage excavation work.
Explain the techniques, materials, and equipment used in excavations.
Use appropriate communication methods during excavation work.

Anyone likely to work in a supervisory capacity during excavation activities.
