Authorised Gas Tester (AGT)

Pre-Course Requisites:

Candidate shall be physically able to carry out procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all the sessions to be eligible for assessment. Client Specific may request Basic First Aid.

Objectives:

During the course participants will gain an understanding on the legislative, company requirements, recognizing hazards and gases, pre – entry requirements, safe working codes of practices, be certified as an Authorized Gas Tester for confined space and conduct effective gas testing.

Course Outline and Overview:

Our Gas Testing training course is designed for workers who may need to undertake monitoring of potentially hazardous atmospheres in the workplace. These areas that may need to be atmospherically tested may include:

  • Confined spaces,
  • Hazardous material storage areas,
  • Restricted spaces,
  • Areas which contain dangerous goods

This course is taught by highly experienced instructors & the trainees will learn:

  • When gas testing is required,
  • How to conduct gas testing,
  • How to determine if the atmosphere is safe to work in.

Course Content:

The program focuses on:

  • Introduction & Definitions,
  • Hazard Recognition and Assessment,
  • Flammability of Hydrocarbons
  • Role and Responsibilities of an AGT,
  • Testing Confined Spaces,
  • Consequences of deficient and enriched atmospheres,
  • Familiarization and use of portable Gas Detector,
  • Requirements for PPE.

Method of Training:

  • Theory session: Will be conducted in classroom using Laptop, Projector, Screen, White board and other relevant props.
  • Practical Session: Demonstration of pre‐usage inspection and operation of portable gas detection equipment by the trainer and the trainee repeating the exercise.

Certification:

Upon completion of the training participants will be certified with an ‘Authorized Gas Tester’ ID card as per the standards set. Participants must pass a graded final exam with a score of 70% or better.

Duration: 4 Hours

PreRequisite: There are no pre‐requisites for this course.
